JrAHA is offering 20 families an economical summer camp for a parent (or guardian) and one or two children (ages 9-17) which will prepare them to be self sufficient in fishing both fresh water and saltwater venues. It is a three day camp, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Thursday & Friday available for alternates for weather issues.
Monday, the first day is the basic TPWD Angler Education curriculum learning how
to rig a rod & reel and cast. Also safety, ethics, rules & regulations, fish
habitat, species and bait will be covered.
Tuesday, the second camp day is at a private fresh water lake where we will fish for blue gill, crappie and largemouth bass to apply your learned skills on the water.
Wednesday, the third camp day is on Galveston Bay at a park with a 1,000 ft pier where we will fish for speckled trout, croakers, sheepshead, redfish and other saltwater species to apply your learned skills on the water.
We begin each day at a "camp" setting at 7:00 AM (when the fish are biting) and wrap up by 12 noon before the heat is too much for both campers and the fish.
Thursday and Friday are alternative rain dates or you will be ready to go on you own to any one of a number of locations we will inform you about.
The 3 day camp fee is $30 for a parent (or guardian) and one child and $40 for two children. Included are the access fees, all necessary fishing equipment and bait. It is payable at time of reservation and is non refundable unless the class or outing is cancelled by JrAHA due to weather or other unsuitable conditions. For those 17 and older a fishing license will be required when we are on public water for the saltwater outing (a minimum one day license is $11). You can purchase it on Tuesday prior to the Wednesday outing to Galveston Bay at a nearby location.
You must provide your own transportation to and from each day. The driving distance from downtown Houston is approximately 20 miles each way to & from the destinations all three days.
Space is limited so call right away and
make your vacation plans to "go fishing" with your child and begin a
lifetime of outdoors recreation.
