JrAHA’s Shooting Sports program is focused on providing a pathway for acquiring the knowledge, experience and training to develop skills, safety practices and sense of ethics associated with the “value of life” of both people and wildlife. Understanding the value of life is a major step in committing oneself to healthy, safe and ethical use of firearms for time honored traditional sports of hunting and competitive shooting.
This pathway includes: Hunter Safety Education and Certification plus introductory firearm (air rifles, 22 cal. Rifle, 243 cal Rifle, 12/20 ga. Shotgun) & archery training.
In addition JrAHA will promote, coordinate and provide assistance for participating youth to compete in the annual State of Texas Hunter Education Challenge and other local area shooting sports competition. JrAHA awards annually scholarships for shooting sports. Check out our scholarship program page.
A vital key to the success of this program is the involvement of parents, relatives and mentors as well as volunteer and professional hunter educators. Participation in this program will be a very positive learning experience for all involved.
