The Bob Kester Scholarship Program
There are six annual scholarships of $1,000 awarded to selected participants. These cash awards can be used for any purpose that will assist the recipients starting subsequent educational programs. Requirements for all scholarships include:
· Graduate from high school.
· Enroll in a university, college, trade school, apprenticeship program or enlist in any of the U S Armed Forces.
Master Angler
Scholarship Competition:
1. Participate in a Angler Ed class.
2. Submit application for scholarship
3. Enroll in the President’s Award for Volunteer Service (go to Volunteer/President’s Award page on website)
4. Participate in one fishing field trip minimally and demonstrate knot tying and tackle rigging, casting and fish handling “for catch and release”.
5. Record catches according to species and length during fishing field trips and report results to teacher and JrAHA scholarship selection committee (elg@jraha.org).
6. PASS (with minimum score of 80) a written (or individual oral) test at end of the formal AE class including questions on Rules & Regulations, Conservation, Species, Ethics, and Safety.
7. Teacher has submitted all required reports for TPWD to JrAHA no later than one week after class has concluded.
8. Scholarship Selection committee will evaluate all facets of performance and participation in the Angler Program plus review time and service performed in the President’s Award program and select one male and female participant.
Master Archer
Scholarship Competition:
1. Participate in TX-NASP class for basic archery.
2. Submit a scholarship application
3. Enroll in the President’s Award for Volunteer Service (go to Volunteer/President’s Award page on website)
4. PASS (with minimum score of 80) a written (or individual oral) test at end of the formal TX-NASP including questions on Scoring in Competition, The 11 Steps to Success in Archery, and Whistle Commands and Safety Rules.
5. Qualified with school or after school or additional training to represent the school at the HISD competition in January each year. Note: School Teams compete for inter-school awards and selection of representatives for the State Competition in Waco the last week in February each year.
6. HISD selected students will participate in the Texas-NASP tournament in Waco, TX in February and if performance dictates in the National NASP tournament in Louisville KY in March.
7. Teacher has submitted all required reports for TPWD to JrAHA no later than one week after class has concluded.
9. JrAHA ‘s Scholarship Selection committee will evaluate all facets of performance and participation in the Archery Program plus review time and services performed in the President’s Award program and select one male and female participant.
Shooting Sports
Scholarship Competition:
1. Participate in Hunter Safety Education class for certification.
2. Submit a scholarship application
3. Enroll in the President’s Award for Volunteer Service (go to Volunteer/President’s Award page on website)
4. PASS (with minimum score of 80) the written TPWD Hunter Education Certification final test, pass the live fire exercise and pass the field skills trail exercise as part of the ONE DAY FIELD TRAIL EXERCISE PORTION OF THE TPWD ON LINE HUNTER ED COURSE. Classes are scheduled on Saturday’s beginning in August through September and into October. Go to calendar on website for details.
5. Complete the JrAHA firearm familiarization class accompanied by a parent or guardian and demonstrate competency in shooting ax 22 cal. target rifle, a 243 cal. scoped rifle, and a shotgun.
6. JrAHA ‘s Scholarship Selection committee will evaluate all facets of performance and participation in the Shooting Sports Program plus review time and services performed in the President’s Award program and select one male and female participant.
